1. When did you become interested in basketball?
One day, I was walking down my high school in Augusta, Ga and a lady
walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to go to college, and I told
her yes. She said that there was a way that I could go to college
without paying for it, and did I want to know how--I said Of course. She
said it was through playing basketball. I had never heard of the sport,
I had never watched the sport, and I didn't have any clue that it was a
sport, so I said okay, she told me to come after school and I did. I was
15 years old in the 10th grade and now she tells me that she is glad
that she did.
2. Who was your role model growing up?
My parents were my role models, for I didn't have any to look up too, I
really wasn't into music or television. But once I got into basketball,
I looked up to those who didn't have big names and made something of
themselves like Joe Dumars--hard workers who had the talent but didn't
have the name of some of the big time "named" athletes..
3. Name one player who was your toughest opponent and why?
I would think that right now, it would have to be "Yo-yo" because of the
fact that she can do alot of things, not just post and bang, but she is
finesse and has quick moves, but the older players are tough too,
because they can pull some tricks out, the young ones have never seen
this day. THose old school moves really can catch a youngster off
guard.
4. What's the strongest part of your game?
Right now, I think it is my shot blocking ability, or my presence in the
defensive lane. I think I have the quick hands of a shot-blocker, I can
anticipate quickly, which helps me with passes from Dawn too. :)
5. If you could put together a 5 woman All-Star Team from the ABL, who
would you pick and why?
Hmmm, this is hard. First the guard would have to be someone older but
not too old that they can't move, I think that would have to be Dawn
Staley, and then Teresa can play the 2 and help with the 1 spot, then
for the 3, I would need someone who could slash, bang and put up the
jumper if need to and that would be Katie Smith, for the 4 it would be
between me and Yolonda, but I have to go with myself, because of my
defensive ability also, I can bang the bigger posts and finesse the
banger posts, whereas yo-yo mainly does well against finesse players,
and for the 5 spot, hmmmm. NOw that would be difficult to pick, I would
need someone with some speed to run with this group, but also someone to
bang those big players, someone with a soft touch around the goal, but
can face up and hit those 8 footers: that would be Natalie, but she
isn't very tall and I think I would need more of her jumper, if not then
Tari Phillips because she is quick, can bang, and can shoot the soft
jumper in the lane. Whew, I feel like a coach doing a scouting report.:)
6. What's the major difference in playing overseas vs. in the United
States?
Well the big difference is defense, when you play overseas, the players
don't play any, and then when you come to the States, the teams are all
about Defense and you must be able to play it on any number of
positions.
7. What are your plans after basketball?
I have had this questioned asked 5 times in the last 24 hours, I want to
write stories, like horror, romance, children anything. I also want to
teach english in some small college in the woods somewhere. In between
that i might try law school, and going into the air force to learn more
about computers.
